US embassy not to provide security to Mansoor Ijaz

ISLAMABAD: The United States embassy in Islamabad has said that it would not provide security to Mansoor Ijaz who intends to appear before the tribunal investigating the “memogate scandal”.

It said Ijaz was a common US citizen and would be coming to Pakistan on his own wish, adding that he would be treated like other US citizens.

The embassy officials said that Mansoor Ijaz would be treated as other US citizens were treated. Mansoor Ijaz would not be allowed to live in the embassy, the officials said.

The US embassy’s statement has given birth to new apprehensions regarding Mansoor Ijaz’s appearance before the commission.

Pakistan government has also kept mum over the issue. However, the government officials say Ijaz is not invited in the country and he would be treated like a common US citizen.

Mansoor Ijaz requested through his lawyer foolproof security. It may be noted that Mansoor Ijaz got his visa from Pakistan High Commission in London two days ago and said he was all set to appear before the memo commission.
