101 Pakistanis in Spanish jails: Khar

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar on Tuesday told the Senate that as per information gathered from informal sources, about 101 Pakistanis were held in jails in Spain. Answering a question during the Question-Hour, she said due to privacy laws, the Spanish authorities do not provide information about the prisoners. She said that for assistance in 2009, the lawyer hired by the ten Pakistanis facing terrorism charges was paid Euro 15,000 by the Consulate General in Barcelona (Spain) as fee.

JI to go for solo flight in next elections

PESHAWAR: Provincial head of Jamaat-e-Islami Prof Mohammad Ibraheem Khan has said his party would make a solo flight in the next elections by fielding candidates under its own election symbol. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, he said the JI had gained maximum support from the masses in the province and would emerge victorious in the next polls. He said his party’s public meetings in Charsadda on February 19 and in Malakand on February 23 would be big shows of its strength. Prof Ibraheem asked the JI workers to stop thinking about alliances and make preparations for the elections.

‘Bol’ gets Indian award

KARACHI: Pakistani film ‘Bol’ by Shoaib Manzoor, has won the best Hindi/Urdu film award from the Lucknow-based civil society Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS). The award has been given to the topical and thought-provoking film for raising many social issues including the regressive attitude of a male-dominated society. Shoaib Manzoor earlier achieved fame in India with ‘Khuda ke Liye’, which also starred Naseeruddin Shah. The awards have been given to acknowledge and accept the great impact of cinema on Indian socio-cultural life.

Three injured in Landikotal blast

LANDIKOTAL: Three persons were injured when a remote-controlled bomb went off in Sadukhel village in Landikotal, tribal sources said on Tuesday. The sources said that unidentified persons had planted a remote-controlled device at the front portion of a Hujra (male guesthouse) that was triggered at 5:30pm. Three persons, stated to be brothers, sitting near the entrance of the Hujra were seriously injured.
